As Above, So Below is a play-by-post RPG based on the Dragon Age series of video games. Play takes place during the events of Dragon Age: Inquisition as our characters navigate cutthroat politics, tumultuous relationships, and the looming threat of a sky torn asunder. Set in a world of dark fantasy, we explore mature topics while crafting thoughtful and compelling plots focusing on OC stories with minimal canon involvement. We're an advanced RP for those who are comfortable with creative writing. 18+, 3/2/2, Faceclaims optional.

Hi, friendos! It's me, your friendly neighborhood admin-man.
My name is Alycia, which you're welcome to call me, but I also go by RollForBluff or Roll. I'm a mid-twenties late-bloomer (social anxiety, ho!) currently double majoring in creative writing and cultural studies. When I'm not obsessing over Dragon Age, I work as a freelance writer and spend too much time watching Youtube videos about the narrative and cultural impact of video games and tv shows. I have lots of tattoos and haven't worn a dress in about a decade. I like to pretend I'm an adult goth and I've played just about every board game known to man. I don't really use social media, but you can find me (and my cats) on Instagram at _ronald_raygun_.
My personal ranking of the Dragon Age games (fight me):
1. Dragon Age 2
2. Dragon Age: Origins
3. Dragon Age: Inquisition
Some of my other favorite games, in no particular order:
Journey
Fable (series)
Fallen London & Sunless Sea
Detroit: Become Human
Spyro The Dragon
The Elder Scrolls (series)
Dream Daddy
Undertale
Stardew Valley
Ask me for my beef jerky recipe.

I'm dragontartare, and I just figured out that the little quote bubble on people's posts is actually a PM icon. And that the little arrows chasing each other are confusingly for quoting other posts.
Well. I hope Space enjoyed reading the intro that I just PMed to him.
...
I'm in my early-ish 30's and my occupation is a mystery to everyone! I live somewhere between Canada and Mexico.
I am a relative latecomer to DA and even latercomer to Mass Effect. I played Neverwinter Nights in the early 2000s, then games started requiring fancy graphics cards to even run at all, so I virtually stopped gaming (aside from Sims 3, which ran very poorly) until 2015, when I splurged on a gaming laptop.
I played DA in 2015, then Mass Effect in...2017? I think? I can't even remember. I'd have to go find my "LOOK AT MEEEEEEEE!" thread on BSN to figure out for sure.
My favorite DA game order is:
DA2 (HAWKE 4EVAR)
DAI
.
.
.
.
DAO
I feel lots of NWN nostalgia for DAO, but parts of it drag so much for me that I have trouble replaying it.
Other games I enjoy:
Mass Effect Trilogy (as mentioned). I'm doing a run of that right now.
The Witcher 3
The Sims 3 with every expansion pack except for the one that comes with sparkly vampires
The Turing Test
Assassin's Creed Syndicate, which I uninstalled to make space for MEA. Need to reinstall and finish it one of these days.
Portal
I also bought Obduction, but have yet to really dive into it.

Hey Dragon! It's really great to have you!
I also made that mistake when I first installed the theme here; thankfully I just sent a message to myself. There are a few issues I have with the way this theme is laid out, but I just don't have a ton of code acuity. Once the group here gets settled, I'm gonna look into finding something that suits our needs a little better (once we know exactly what our needs are).
I'm Billie, a mid-20s journalist by trade and musician/tech weenie by hobby. I, too, like to play video games! If I had to rank the DA titles I'd probs put Origins first, then DAI and DA2, but not by a lot. I've mostly enjoyed the whole series without reservation. I was also the only person that enjoyed Mass Effect: Andromeda, so hey, good to meet you.

Get out of here, you heathen.
JK, I liked Andromeda too. Though I've never managed to finish it.
i'm Planxty. I'm a full time movie extra (not kidding), cosplayer, competitive Irish dancer. My DA order is I - 2 - O and I also love Portal, KOTOR, Elder Scrolls, and Mass Effect

That's a pretty neat list of things! What kind of movies have you been in? Also which characters do you cosplay?

Hey, my name's Meghan (internet pseudonym MegHanSolo) - you can call me whatever you like, Meg. Han. Solo. Harrison, whatever! I've rarely been the only Meghan on a site ...so really it's only a matter of time.
I'm 26 and a resident of St.Louis, Missouri (and have been all my life). I've been roleplaying since I was 13. I am a full time graphic designer who does some personal illustrating on the side (arguably a novice in that regard). I also work in a frame shop sometimes on the weekends for fun - I really like teaching people about their artwork, helping them protect it and making it look good! I collect a fair bit of art myself and have over a dozen framed pieces that I have nowhere to hang...and have a very strong working knowledge of art history and art processes (especially print).
There's not much about me worth knowing other that I love my cat - the shining light of my life, Riley, and am an encyclopedia when it comes to anything art related. I'm a huge animation junkie and tend to know a lot about projects getting signed into production years in advance...also a rampant trekkie which seems contrary to my name sake. But really star wars and star trek are like comparing apples and oranges and...well, we won't get into that right now.
As for vidja gams...frankly I don't...and can't..play very many. I tend to just collect art books and appreciate from afar. Dragon age is the only one! I read most of the wiki before playing the games because I loved the lore and was def in it for that and hoping to gain some inspiration from it, and then I got sucked in! I played the games in succession about a year and a half ago (origins, DAII, and then DAI). I love them all for a lot of different reasons and couldn't pick a favorite...
Here's a link to some of my social media which I rarely post on! Cause why not

Hello friends, I am Vharlin (elvish for kitten!) and it's been.. a long time since I've felt comfortable joining a roleplay site of any type.
Let me start with the basics! (though I'll forget something, I know it.) if you have any questions about anything, feel free to ask me!
- I've been roleplaying since I was eleven, that's fifteen years. - I'm a non-binary and elfkin, they/them for pronouns, please. <3 - I suffer from social anxiety, manic depression, and borderline personality disorder along with a heck of a lot of insecurity. I wear my heart on my sleeve and express my emotions very openly, if not too openly... I realize that. I truly apologize if I ever say anything that offends you. If I do so, please just let me know my mistake and I'll do my best to try and fix it. All I ever truly want is to belong, that's all I've ever wanted. For those who need more clarification or understanding on BPD, I'm more than happy to teach anyone about it. I tend to overshare and for that, I also truly apologize as I can only help myself to a certain extent. I may seek validation without realizing it, though I've gotten a lot better at controlling such behaviors. Every day is a struggle, but I learn something and better myself as well. - I'm obsessed with elves to the point where I only play elf characters. Also for anyone apart of the Dragon Age Tumblr fandom back in the day, I also dated fenxshiral, the creator of Project Elvhen. - I'm currently twenty-six! - I am a romanticist, I love romance and the idea of it. - I'm apart of a Dragon Age DnD campaign, it's amazing, fenxshiral runs it! - I've probably seen every episode of any satirical cartoon, I can usually list them off by name... (I have no life.) - I enjoy gardening and raising my two cats: fen'an and arabela. - Valtion is probably the most wonderful person I've ever met, he makes me happier than I've ever felt. -blows kisses- - My current occupation is.. well nothing really. Since I suffer so heavily from my disorder and don't have the means to get the help I need, jobs really end up hating me. (Whoever thought someone talking a lot and being overly nice would be a problem at a customer service job?)
I've been playing Dragon Age for.. longer than I can remember at this point; I discovered it quite by accident and well, that was it. It was Origins that truly made me fall in love with both role play and romance in video games (have you played Jade Empire? Simply amazing) and created a lust for romance that I've only recently been able to slake. I'm the foremost expert on Otome visual novels for this very reason, I've played them all.
My list of DA games in order:
- Origins
- Inquisition
- .... Dragon Age 2 and I have a lot of disagreements.
I want to add more, but certain things can only be learned through experience. c; I'm really eager to get to know all of you and hope we can co-exist peacefully.
Salutations, my name is Douglas. Here, however, I will most likely be going by Valtion. It is the only online persona that I have anything truly attached to, so I'll keep building up a little resume by that moniker.
I suppose that basic information is somewhat necessary for a proper introduction, so I'll start there. I've only just recently begun my 20's, though my experience and expertise is... all over the place. I have an odd sense of humor, one which more often than not will resort to casually talking about violence, in purely physical terms. I say that mostly as a warning, as over the years have experienced various level of backlash, with similar amounts of mental pain as a direct result. To be blunt, I'm an oxymoron, especially the moron part. I never intend to scare people, harm people, or otherwise cause another sentient being any amount of pain. If I ever do, please let me know immediately and I will not hesitate to delete the offending post, apologize profusely, and clarify to the best of my ability.
While personal qualifications are somewhat of an odd thing to bring up, hopefully they can help people with regards to understanding why I write in specific ways. I have studied conflict for the better part of my life, earning two black belts and reading more than a dozen books on the physiological and psychological effects that conflict has on a sentient being. For the most part, when it comes to action and aftermath of action, I know my stuff. I am also an Eagle Scout, and as such I am very well versed in being an outdoorsman.
Those points, however, are only the basic necessities to understanding who I am and how I think, paling in comparison to the far more jovial topics. I like to consider myself a fun-loving guy. I like to joke around and laugh at the absurdity of things, and enjoy myself most when I know that others are having fun. I'm a Conservationalist, and the outdoors mean everything to me. With regards to role-play, I've been role-playing in earnest ever since 2nd grade. A friend of mine from school introduced me to D&D, and my father was mortified when I got home. By mortified, I mean that he was upset that he hadn't introduced me to the game first, and lost the race to a 2nd grade boy.
"Where are you going, Doug? New friend's house?"
"Dad, have you ever heard of a game called Dungeons and Dragons?"
Needless to say, his old college friends still don't let him live that down. In a similar vein to that story, I have been raised almost completely on make-believe. I have been watching Star Wars ever since, quite literally, I was brought home from the hospital. And it was actually that love of Star Wars that brought me to Dragon Age. When I was young, I played KotOR non-stop, but since I didn't understand any of the mechanics I kept getting stuck, never able to complete the game properly until I was much, much older and got a new copy of it. I became accustomed with the name of the company that produced it, and was thus associated with Dragon Age and Mass Effect. Dragon Age had a slightly higher appeal.
Favorite Games (In something of an Order): 1.) KotOR II 2.) DAO 3.) KotOR 4.) DAI 5.) Yu-Gi-Oh 5D's: Reverse of Arcadia
Most all of my RP is based in tabletop RPG's, which I've been doing for a very long time on both sides of the screen, but forum-play is still pretty new to me. I am in the same DARPG game as Vharlin, and am in a relationship with them. Heh. Glad to meet you all, and hopefully I'll figure out how to be a tad more concise soon.
