Properly becoming friends with Athela may be easier said than done. She's kind and polite to everyone that returns the respect she offers—and whose behavior doesn't clash with her moral sensibilities—but Athela has very few true friends. This is, primarily, a result of her austere upbringing within the Chantry, subsequent years spent in the Templar Order, and general disposition. The people most likely to be considered Athela's friend are people with whom she served (though many may not consider her a friend now), her comrades-in-arms, and anybody that shows a moral backbone and the resolve to make the world a better place.
enemies
The two groups most likely to possess enemies of Athela are mages and templars, for she once was a Knight-Captain of the order, but has since abandoned her post and left the Chantry. As a result, many of her former brothers- and sisters-in-arms view her as a traitor—meanwhile, many mages view any templar, current or former, as the symbol of their oppression. And rightly so, Athela would agree. Though she's turned away from some of the Chantry's more vitriolic, anti-magic teachings, she may not have the support and friendship of every mage she encounters for it.
lovers
Athela has only known one lover. Though the Chantry holds no official vows of celibacy for templars, it is difficult to date when you live and work on an island surrounded by your fellow templars and the mages you're intended to care for. Her current partner is one of the latter, a mage whom she escaped Kinloch Hold from during the outset of the Mage-Templar war, and with whom she has been traveling for almost a year now. After nursing her back to health during the worst of her lyrium withdrawal, Athela fell in love with the man, and they've been shoring up a romantic relationship ever since. The two wear brass fede rings on their left hands—a ring whose apex is two clasped hands—to publicly display their devotion to one another.
Being surface-level pals with Maggie is easy peasy! She's sweet as can be and kind to a fault. Really, everybody's her friend! As long as they aren't mean to her and don't try to hurt her, anyway. But really cracking that anxiety-ridden socially awkward shell can be difficult, and only a handful of people—all of them Maggie's magi peers—can call themselves her good friend... for now, anyway!
enemies
Maggie hasn't made many enemies in her life, but devout templars comprise many of them. Despite her refusal to play the role of aggressor in the Mage-Templar War, simply being a mage has earned her the ire of many of the faithful!
lovers
Maggie has had a few lovers in her past, all of them mages—but these were only short, mostly-sexual affairs. She is exclusively attracted to women, and typically drawn towards more confident, "butch" gals. That said, her social anxiety makes it difficult for her to initiate any sort of flirtatious banter or romantic encounters, so she's more or less stuck waiting for somebody to notice and pursue her.
Ash is, for the most part, easy to get along with. Jovial and charismatic, he's won many friends over the years—particularly in less-than-legal circles. That said, his brand of swaggering, lazy charm might madden more serious types! But as long as you aren't a brat, Ash is happy to call you his friend... oh, especially if you can make him money! Or show him a good time.
enemies
Considering his long and storied career as both a thief and an assassin, Ash has earned himself plenty of enemies. Presently, if you are Antivan merchant "royalty," there's a good chance you've got a problem with Ash. Unless, of course, you hate the people he ripped off—in which case perhaps you love him! Anybody that represents authority or upholds the law is likely Ash's enemy, and there's no shortage of people that want him dead.
lovers
Ash takes on casual bed partners sporadically, favoring neither men or women—or anything in between. He's only had one significant lover, but beyond that, he's open for romantic plotting. Presently, however, the death of his last partner has left him a little weary, so he might not be in the best shape for romantic pursuits, even if he is a shameless flirt.
I think it could be fun to have Amos and Maggie plot together. She seems like the kind of person that Amos would loathe, but at the same time, I'm thinking that a person like her would be the only kind of person that could feasibly become friends with Amos at some point. Despite Amos being pretty devout, he doesn't really have an issue with mages (though he might be a little freaked out at first) so long as they clearly aren't crazed blood mages. I'm not entirely sure how they could meet up, but I'd love to brainstorm something with you.
Ooh, I just read your app/plotter and he sounds like a real asshole! He could definitely be fun to play off of Maggie. She's too kindhearted and shy to call him out on his bullshit. Like Athela, she's currently doing good deeds in Haven preceding the conclave, so if he's there they could easily meet. Otherwise, maybe he'll get involved with the inquisition once the conclave is exploded?
Athela + Gen I think these two might share some common ground. They're both former Templars, though the circumstances under which they left were very different. Maybe there's a chance they could open up and form some kind of friendship or something.
Mairaed + Gen Orlesian mage, meet Orlesian Templar. It's very likely these two have some sort of history. OK, so Gen was in Montsimmard, but it's possible she travelled around a little. I imagine they were probably on neutral ish terms, Gen was kind of stuck in her own head in her templar days
DEFINITELY! And even if Gen is totally losing her shit and succumbing to evil red poison, Athela would feel compelled to try to help her, as they used to be comrades of a sort—even if they've never met. I know you were hoping somebody (or multiple people) could try to redeem her long-term, and Athela would definitely work for that!
Re: Mairead
It makes sense to me that they've met! Maggie probably didn't leave the White Spire much, or at all, but it's very possible that Gen spent some time there for whatever reason. Templar business! Mairead would probably have been attracted to her, what with the whole badass stern butch vibe, but of course she doesn't initiate flirtation and even attempting to hook up would have been fraternization. But she might have admired her from afar!
Athela: Yes! Big thumbs up to possible redemption. I'm going to have her nip in to the conclave, so maybe they could meet there?
Mairead: You know, I had the same thought, but I felt like a weirdo going "Hey, my character is you're character's type so she should have a crush on her." Gen's not the best at reading people, but I think she could have picked up on something which would have made their interactions all the more awkward, and as I have said before I love awkward situation.
Hah! No, it works perfectly. Especially because she's already horribly awkward. What do you think about Athela and Gen meeting in the rapid-fire thread, and Mairead and Gen having their own thread set around roughly the same time? A day or two before the divine arrives.
