As Above, So Below is a play-by-post RPG based on the Dragon Age series of video games. Play takes place during the events of Dragon Age: Inquisition as our characters navigate cutthroat politics, tumultuous relationships, and the looming threat of a sky torn asunder. Set in a world of dark fantasy, we explore mature topics while crafting thoughtful and compelling plots focusing on OC stories with minimal canon involvement. We're an advanced RP for those who are comfortable with creative writing. 18+, 3/2/2, Faceclaims optional.

He has never been the best at making friends, but those few who would call him an ally know that he is an absolute bro. His first loyalty is to his family, his clan, and within that are his "mother," the former Tamassran known now as Hissera, his three younger "sisters" and his Weaponsmaster, a former Aravaarad now known as Issqun Kata. His second loyalty is to those who fight by his side, friends who know him by his prowess on the battlefield. His shieldbrothers and sisters have his utmost respect, and tomfoolery with them while inebriated is only half the fun he'll get into.
ENEMIES
You are either prey or client. As he was taught by the clan weaponsmaster, every client is one missed payment away from becoming a target, and vice versa. If you've ever decided to disagree with Gaatlok once he decides that you're supposed to be dead, you are prey. If you've absolutely destroyed him in combat, only to humiliate him by leaving him alive, you are prey. If you've agreed to a deal with him then you are expected to honor it. If you don't, you are prey. There's also one former client of his, a slaver group that he worked with for a time. When his time with them was finished and his coin collected, he murdered the leader of the group and ran off with some additional coin. He's come to realize that he abhores slavery.
LOVERS
His first love, a Tal-Vashoth who called herself Meraad, has long since passed away. She was among the few who rushed towards glory against the Drake, but as she sought glory, and didn't seek to protect her fellows, her movements perished in the flames that burned away Gaatlok's face and torso. She is remembered, but that was more than a decade ago. His second lover was a dwarf woman, Brunja, who spent a time with him while he learned Smith-Craft from her father. When his training was finished, he left. He took the time to say goodbye, but the love was more physical than emotional. Emotions are dangerous to a man consumed with rage, and Gaatlok has learned that lesson too many times. On a more recent job, he met an elven woman. He barely got her name, and the encounter was more awkward than anything, but... the image has been burned into his memory, and he has no intention of trying to forget.
OTHERS
Gaatlok spent his own coin to learn the art of smithing, giving his muscles a use outside of bloodshed. It was from a retired dwarven smith, a surfacer with questionable connections known only as Edelherz, but Gaatlok didn't care, thinking only of finding a way to support himself in more therapeutic ways than killing for coin. Besides, he often is paid an additional amount for his ability to repair and forge supplies for those he travels with, which he will never complain about. Perhaps someday he'll find a place in his travels where his clan may settle down, a place where the grass is green and the food is less scarce, but that day is far off.
